Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Powder

5 Star rating on our Ebay store

Riboflavin is another name for Vitamin B2. It is a necessary ingredient in many different metabolic processes that help sustain healthy cells with energy. It does this by turning fats, proteins and carbohydrates into energy post-metabolism by synthesizing sterols and fatty acids.

Besides actively being involved in the process of creating energy, Riboflavin is also responsible for eventually being transformed into the coenzymes flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN). These coenzymes act upon adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and help transport it throughout the body. In this way, Riboflavin becomes important in two different facets of energy production, as ATP is the chemical that allows energy to both be created and stored in the muscles for later.

Riboflavin helps cells utilize oxygen better and helps keeps the eyes, skin hair and nails healthy. It is a necessary component in the process that leads to cells growing. The body does store a small amount of Riboflavin in the kidneys and the liver, but not enough to sustain the body. It must be regularly consumed.

The vitamin also has antioxidant properties that may neutralize free radicals before they can cause serious damage. Riboflavin also acts upon both folate and pantothenic acid, two of the most crucial neurotransmitters associated with the development of memory and overall cognitive abilities.

Women who have been prescribed oral contraceptives and people who drink excessive amounts of alcohol may want to consider supplementing Riboflavin, as both of these elements may cause a reduction in the body’s ability to correctly absorb Riboflavin. Supplementation might also be beneficial for elderly, diabetic and lactose intolerant individuals who may be deficient.

Serving Size & Timing
It is recommended that Riboflavin be taken in servings of 50mg one or two times per day, depending on intended effect. Since this is such a small quantity, it is best to measure it using a digital gram scale rather than measuring spoons. However, if you insist on using measuring spoons or no other alternative is available, about 1/32 tsp will roughly equal 50mg.
